This change appears to be underhanded and unknown and masked as a change to municipal ordinance to avoid any real public dicussion! I want it reversed!

Hi Leo,

Thank you for commenting on the recently modified noise ordinance which took effect on October 20, 2016. There were several public meetings and workshops on this topic that generated discussion. These occurred during Town Council meetings, one Zoning and Design Review Board Meeting, and one combined meeting of the Town Council and Zoning and Design Review Board.

There has been some confusion that the ordinance restricts work, when it actually only applies to intrusive noise. The hours of work are up to the contractor and the property owner/tenant. Intrusive noise (such as that produced by a leaf blower, saw, or other power tool) is permitted between the hours of 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Before this ordinance was adopted, intrusive noise was not permitted as part of a contracted service on Saturdays. Now, this noise can be generated between the hours of 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturdays on the condition that a property owner or tenant is present. This was included to give more freedom to the owner or tenant as it is understood that weekdays can become busy and Saturdays are often the only times available to get projects done.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion that there might be. A flyer is also available online (copy this url: http://www.townofyountville.com/home/showdocument?id=4966) or at Town Hall that helps explain the ordinance.
